I’m not much of a Tweeter (@markxdavies) and follow even fewer, but among those I do are two of my favourite broadcasters, Andrew Cotter (@MrAndrewCotter) and Clare Balding (@clarebalding1). Both I have known for a long time – Andrew was doing desks when I first arrived at Five Live, and was stand-out then; Clare is an old university friend, and in my opinion has always been absolutely brilliant on air – but neither can I claim to know well. Between them, though, they keep me informed on most things sporting, and otherwise generally in-touch.
Clare’s Twitter feed relating to her ding-dong with AA Gill (after his appalling approach to reviewing her new radio programme Britain by Bike) had the Twitterati entertained and (rightly) up-in-arms in equal measure. Her offering today had me in stitches, and was definitely a story I would have missed.
She writes: “Story in Racing Post today about a racegoer at Market Rasen being arrested for masturbating in the stands. You’d think the headline would be good. So disappointing that the best they could do was: “Racegoer Removed After Appalling Incident”.”
No idea what they might have replaced it with…
‘Come Racing Initiative Has Unfortunate Consequences’ ?
