It is inevitable that immigration is going to be lower in the future. Business will not have the option of importing the skills we lack at home. A successful departure is therefore inconceivable without a better trained, more productive workforce. It is time to get tough with firms that offer pitiful on-the-job training, limiting the wage progression of their employees. Above all, leaving the EU must be the catalyst for taking vocational education seriously.
